Curriculum Intent:
At St Columba we explore history along our chronological timeline, understanding how people’s lives have been shaped and changed by different events in history. In the Early Years and Key Stage 1, we embark on a journey to understand what history means to us, exploring different aspects of our everyday life such as holidays and toys and how they have changed over time. We also learn about events beyond living memory, for example the Great Fire of London and lives of significant individuals who have left marks on history.
As students progress into Key Stage 2, our historians explore different periods, including the Romans, Egyptians and Vikings. Here, we foster a deeper understanding by comparing and contrasting various aspects across different historical periods and their lasting impact on society.
