At St Columba, our Modern Foreign Language (MFL) is French, which is taught across KS2. We follow the Kapow scheme of learning, which allows pupils to acquire an understanding of both spoken and written French, confidence to speak in French with others and to gain an insight into the French speaking world.
Our French lessons are engaging and enjoyable, stimulating curiosity about language and cultural similarities and differences. Activities include mime, games, songs, video clips, role play and creative tasks. Teachers ensure learning is accessible to all pupils and supports oracy and literacy, with a particular focus on speaking and listening skills, thus laying foundations for future language study.
